Intensives with Dr. Alan Pickering

Different and apart from weekly counseling sessions with Dr. Alan, are “intensives,” which he offers for people in situations that require a more focused time.  These include a marriage intensive, family intensive, personal growth intensive, systematic theology intensive, and an intensive for pastors.  Here are the details for each of these intensives.

Marriage Intensive

This intensive focuses on a marriage in crisis; or for couples who desire an intensive premarital experience (“you cannot have a great season without a great preseason”).  This will be a comprehensive treatment of the relationship that will involve a minimum of 15 hours.  This will include pre-testing and limited pre-work before the intensive weekend.

Requirements & Pre-work

  • You must have a brief conversation with Dr. Alan before finalizing the commitment to this intensive.
  • Couples must take the Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis before meeting. It will be administered by Dr. Alan Pickering.  The link will be sent to your email and it will take about an hour.
  • Couples must take The Marital Intimacy Inventory, which will be sent to the couple before the Intensive weekend. This inventory will analyze the 12 areas that create intimacy in a relationship (e.g., intellectual intimacy, recreational intimacy, spiritual intimacy, communication intimacy, sexual intimacy). The booklets will be mailed to the couple and must be mailed back before the Intensive.  That testing will take around 30-45 minutes.
  • Couples will receive Dr. Pickering’s book (2 copies), Essentials Every Couple Needs for a Happy, Healthy & Successful Relationship.
  • Couples must be willing to make a serious attempt to revitalize or save their marriage; or to prepare (premaritally) for an upcoming marriage.
  • Payment is required in advance ($1656). If a couple has to cancel, there must be a 7-10 day advanced notice.  With that notice, an 80% refund is granted.   Without sufficient notice, there would be no refund.
  • If you live outside of the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area, you will need to arrange for your own housing.

What You Will Receive for this Intensive Package

  • Testing with the Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis
  • 2 copies of Essentials Every Couple Needs for a Happy, Healthy & Successful Relationship
  • The Marital Intimacy Inventory, which analyses the 12 ways couples connect with each other (e.g., spiritual intimacy, recreational intimacy, intellectual intimacy, sexual intimacy, etc.).
  • A total of 10 hours with Dr. F. Alan Pickering, plus a personal luncheon with him if you are able to stay over for Sunday.
  • For premarital couples, you will receive the Twogether in Texas certificate, which will give you an 80-90% discount on your marriage license.

Family Intensives

These Intensive focuses vary.  A family must choose a focus they prefer for the building up of their family system (“when the tide comes in, all the boats rise” ). Or the intensive could involve the repairing and re-bonding of relationships within the family.  The various intensive focuses could include the following separate or combination of the possibilities:

  • The Building of a Healthy & Effective Family System toward a four-generational family system
  • Emotional Regulation
  • Living in an Age of Rage: Dealing Effectively with the Emotion of Anger
  • Self-Discipline
  • Assertiveness
  • Love: Understanding & Experiencing the Best
  • Re-bonding Experience between different members of the family: father ßà son, father ßà daughter, mother ßà daughter, mother ßà son, siblings

  • Each family member will be required to take the Taylor-Johnson Temperament before meeting. It will be administered by Dr. Alan Pickering.  The link will be sent to your email and it will take about 30 minutes.
  • Payment is required in advance ($1215 for minimum of 3 family members, $1305 for 4 family members, $1395 for 5 family members, $1485 for 6 family members). If a couple has to cancel, there must be a 7-10 day advanced notice. With that notice, an 80% refund is granted.   Without sufficient notice, there would be no refund.
  • If you live outside of the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area, you will need to arrange for your own housing.

What You Will Receive for this Intensive Package

  • A copy of a book(s), written by Dr. Alan that will be given for every family member on the subject that is the focus of the intensive. A total of 7 hours with Dr. F. Alan Pickering.

Personal Growth Intensive

This intensive is a personal retreat with Dr. Alan for the individual who is wanting to make a major shift with his/her life and ascend to a more effective way of life.  It will involve covering the most essential items for the maximizing of your life.  These subjects could involve most, if not all of the following:

  • The 5 Existential Issues of Life: purpose & meaning, security, significance, lifestyle, eternity
  • Emotional regulation
  • Assertiveness
  • Self-Discipline
  • Connections: The Maximizing Your Relationships with Everyone
  • Shame, Regret & Self-loathing
  • Love: Understanding and Experiencing the Best
  • Bold Love: Sexual Issues
  • Improving Your Marriage
  • Dealing with a Personality Disorder
  • Wisdom
  • Transformation by Trial: How to Effectively Work with the Trials of Your Life

  • Payment is required in advance ($1920). If you have to cancel, there must be a 7-10 day advanced notice. With that notice, an 80% refund is granted.   Without sufficient notice, there would be no refund.
  • If you live outside of the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area, you will need to arrange for your own housing.

What You Will Receive for this Intensive Experience

  • Testing with the Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis and the Omni
  • A copy of all the books pertinent to your selection of topics, written by Dr. Alan that will be given to you for each segment of the intensive. Your focuses will be determined through a discussion with Dr. Alan.
  • You will have a total of 16 hours with Dr. F. Alan, which includes a personal working lunch and supper with him.

Systematic Theology/Sharpening the Sword—Probing the Depths of Christianity

This involves learning the most significant theological ideas of the Bible: God, Christ, Holy Spirit, Angels, Scripture, Man, Sin, Church, Christian Life, Salvation, Last Things (death, heaven, hell, 2nd coming of Jesus, eternity).   This is a delightful interfacing with and discovery of Scripture.  Dr. Alan has conducted over 400 Sharpening the Sword Seminars teaching systematic theology.  This is your opportunity to have your own personal seminar along with your friends, family, or associates.  The minimum number of participants you must have for this intensive is 12 people.

Intensive for Pastors

This intensive is for pastors only.

 

Dr. Alan has had a wide range of experiences in ministry for over fifty years as a youth minister, teaching-pastor, church planter, and pastoral counselor.

 

This will involve two levels of testing: the Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis and Omni.  These tests will be taken no less than a week before the intensive.
